A Day with… Energy Muse
Heather and Timmi from Energy Muse
In the first of our series ‘A Day with’, we are over the moon to be joined by LA duo and co-founders of Energy Muse, Heather Askinosie and Timmi Jandro.
Heather, a Holistic Healer and Crystal Expert and business partner, Timmi co-founded the conscious lifestyle brand, Energy Muse back in 2000. Their soul mission being to de-mystify the crystal realm by teaching people how to integrate crystals into everyday life. We wanted to find out what a typical work day involves, how they use crystals in their everyday lives and what keeps them driven.
Heather lives in South Bay with her husband, son and daughter, and their dog Sirus. Timmi lives in Palos Verdes Estate with her husband, two sons, golden retrievers (Moose and Bear) and cat Tavi.
How do you start your mornings and ease your way into the day?
T: My alarm goes off at 6:30am and I read “The daily word”, a religious daily inspirational message. I light candles, fire up the areas in the house that need to be per Feng Shui and light some incense. I meditate for at least 5 minutes, read some daily inspirations from Dr. Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay, and I journal.
For breakfast, I’ll have something like avocado toast and some days I drink a water elixir with Elite Shungite. I take vitamins consisting of a variety from my acupuncturist – B12 and Glow Sweet Glow by HUM. I’ve been taking it for over 6 months and I’ve noticed my hair get thicker and nails grow faster! I put on a super easy outfit I laid out the evening before and head out the door by 8:00am.
H: I always get up before sunrise. I light incense on my altars throughout the house, meditate and pray. I drink a green juice, get my kids ready for the day and take my daughter to school. Usually after that I have some morning phone calls. I normally wear jewellery that I’m researching, right now I’m playing around with bracelets to help neutralize EMFs, which contain Shungite crystal beads. Depending on my interests or needs at the time, I might wear a different crystal piece.

What does a typical work day involve?
T:When I get to the office, the first thing I do is walk through the warehouse and say good morning to everyone. I touch base with the different departments regarding any meetings, calls or interviews for the day. Around 1pm, I usually stop for lunch – either left overs or a salad with a warmed-up veggie patty. Every day varies, but some days there may be podcast recordings, marketing meetings, seeing clients and or consultants. But my favourite days are the ones filled with an office adventure with Heather! I usually leave the office by 6pm, depending on the day and how much there is to do.
H: I never have a normal day! Typically, I don’t start anything until about 9am. Most days I’m doing some form of research involving speaking to scientists or spiritual and religious people – there’s a gamut of people I talk to daily. Mostly everything I do involves learning about spiritual healing from a variety of sources. Whenever I have a break in my schedule, I try to eat some lunch – either leftovers made by my husband or a bite from somewhere nearby. I spend a portion of most days speaking via podcasts, or getting involved at Energy Muse through meetings, brainstorms, or bringing in new crystal info for product development and content. No matter what the day looks like, every day involves figuring out how to integrate crystals into modern day life. Because my life is so unpredictable, I get home at different times but usually by 6pm.
What are your top tips for keeping inspired and motivated?
T: Hang around people that inspire you whether they be family, friends, mentors (those that give wisdom and solid advice) or those that have accomplished what I wish to accomplish. Keeping faith, believing I am on the right path, remembering to be a badass. My official mantra for 2019 is “I am a badass.”
H: I’m always around a diversity of people – from their beliefs and backgrounds and even age groups. Luckily, I have an 11-year-old daughter who keeps me young and fresh, but I also like to learn from the wisdom keepers and my employees. This diversity changes the way you see life. I can see the world through different eyes. This helps me to stay inspired because I’m open minded.
What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? Any tips for keeping a clear head and a zen workspace?
T: I would tell inspiring entrepreneurs that if you have the idea for a product, chances are if you feel there’s a need for it then others will too, so you go for it! Working in a crystal-based company, it’s built into our job description to keep the space zen and full of good energy. We cleanse our space with sage, frankincense or other cleansing materials daily, and keep the space physically clean and decluttered.
H: I am personally working on it but the fastest hack to keep your mind clear is to watch the sunrise. When given the chance to watch the sunrise or set and connect with those colours, we can get our own biochemistry in balance. When you are in balance, it’s easier to have a clear head, be grounded, and not get caught up in only seeing life from your viewpoint. Getting stuck is what stops an entrepreneur from creating. So, wake up and watch the sunrise! You’ll be ready to take on the day at your highest potential.

What sparked your interest in crystals and drove you to make a career out of it?
T: I was first introduced to crystals by Heather (one of my oldest and dearest friends). She had started working with crystals and was testing out a necklace. She asked 10 of her friends, myself included, to wear the necklace for 10 days and report back any results. During this time, I was experiencing burnout in the garment industry, where I had been working for 12 years. So, when I saw first-hand the way the necklace made me feel, we decided to join forces to bring the power of crystals to more people. We started our business with that same necklace, the Prosperity Necklace (which we still sell to this day!)
H:When I first discovered crystals nearly 30 years ago, I was working in real estate. I stumbled into a crystal shop and fell in love with a crystal that I later discovered was called Amethyst. It’s gorgeous purple colour drew me in, and from that day forward I haven’t stopped loving crystals. I started learning more through crystal healers and practitioners, and eventually wanted to test out their powers on my friends. I gave 10 friends a necklace I made and of those was my childhood friend, Timmi. When she started learning about, working with and falling in love with crystals, we decided to band together and start Energy Muse! She had lots of the business savvy that perfectly paired with my passion for crystal healing. And the rest is history!

What are your favourite crystals and why?
T: I love working with Blue Lace Agate because it’s such a tranquil stone. Because I am a triple Type A personality, it’s one of those stones that keeps me calm and less anxious.
H: Selenite is my number one crystal because it has such a clearing energy. Just lay there with it on your body and it’s like a total energy refresh. My second favourite is Shungite. I carry it in some form with me always to reduce EMF sensitivity from electronic devices.
Have you found that people are becoming more open to the idea of using crystals?
T: Our company is at the exact right place at the right time. We’ve been working with and selling crystals together for almost 3 decades, and being the trailblazers in an industry that was not as accepting as it is now was hard. We’ve seen crystals becoming more mainstream in the past few years, and we’re excited about this invitation to bring crystals to more people!
H: Yes, and I think it’s because now, more than ever, people who don’t know much about or even believe in crystals are being drawn to them. Life has sped up so much that people need something to hold onto. For many, that is a crystal. It’s a tool to help you slow down and feel grounded. With so much technology surrounding us, people are waking up to the ways in which they’ve lost connection with the Earth. People are learning to leave electronics behind and grab onto the earth in the form of crystals. On a deep soul level, we know that we are here to connect – with others, ourselves, and nature. There’s something about crystals that just feels right. Whether you believe in their healing powers or not it feels good and more people are being attracted to them and then starting to experience their potential for healing and manifestation.
Your last adventure?
T: A ski trip!
H: The Great Pyramids in Egypt.
If you could only listen to one song, read one book, watch one film and speak to one person for the rest of your life…
T: I’d listen to ‘Let It Be’ by The Beatles, read ‘The Greatest Salesman In The World’ by Og Mandino and watch ‘Forrest Gump’. I’d speak to my grandfather; he always gave the best words of wisdom and told great life stories. He taught me how to relate to all kinds of people.
H: I’d listen to ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole and read ‘Tibetan Book of Living and Dying’ by Sogyal Rinpoche. I’d watch ‘The Sound of Music’ and I’d choose to speak to God.
How do you maintain work/life balance whilst running your own business?
T: Having a wonderful and reliable team at EM and a trustworthy business partner who is also my best and longest friend has given me the space to have ‘time off’ from work. Having a daily practice of meditation, prayer and reading positive daily inspirations along with a physical release helps me keep my internal balance.
H: I always take time to do my morning practice. It keeps me in a place of gratitude. Start the day with connection and silence. It sets the tone for the day.
How do you wind down at the end of the day?
T: Weeknights we generally stay home and have dinner as a family. I prep for the next day and pick out my outfit for work, set out my workout clothes, prep my lunch and “vitamin pack”. Then I’ll start to wind down by diffusing an essential oil like lavender, and turn on my Himalayan salt lamp. To get the best sleep, I wear an eye mask and earplugs for total darkness and silence. I also like to sleep with a notepad and pen next to my bed so if things do come up I can write them down and release them and continue back to sleep. I aim to be in bed with the lights out by 10pm.
H: At the end of the day, my whole family (kids and dogs included) and I jump into my bed and spend a couple of hours hanging out together. I put my youngest daughter to bed around 9pm then it’s my time to wind down. I usually take a crystal-infused bath (I love Shungite, Rose Quartz and Aquamarine) and then finish with an Ayurvedic oil treatment. Then I do a crystal sleep treatment on my BioMat to get relaxed for bed and write in my 5-year journal. I try to be in bed by 10pm because if I’m not in bed by then, I’ve missed my window!
